The study was conducted from July 2015 to April 2017 to develop portable guide bend weld tester. Specifically, the project aimed to: 1. design a Portable Guided Bend Weld Tester 2; construct a more convenient equipment in testing the quality of weld; 3.evaluate the effectiveness of portable guided bend weld tester in compliance in with standard acceptable criteria on welding in terms of a. compare the pressure needed to bend a mild still based on bending tonnage guide table.
Portable Guided bend weld tester was developed to test the quality strength of a butt joint sample weld metal, it was a destructive testing applying a high pressure force to deformed the test subject, and evaluate the result.
It has hydraulic bottled jack that act as the source of pressure and a “U” shape mild steel connected on it that push upward to get connected on the “I” shape mild steel connected on the upper metal based.
The developed device can bend a minimum 6.3 mm and maximum thickness up to 12.7 mm of mild steel. The total cost of the project was PHP. 31,963.2
