Applied Research IV, Secondary Education Laboratory School, Cavite State University Rosario Campus 2014, Adviser: Mr. Erwin P. Peji The research study entitled, Acaricide From Ipil-Ipil [Lescaena lescocephala (Lam.) De Waj Bark Extract was undertaken at Cavite State University- Rosario Campus from November 2014 to February 2015. The study dealt with the application of the different concentrations of ipil-ipil burks extract. Generally, this study aimed to formulate an acaricide solution made from Ipil-ipil (Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) de Wit) Barks Extract (IBEA), to determine the mortality rate of termites asing various concentration of IBEA. Also, to amess if there is a significant difference in terms of mortality rate of termites between commercial acaricide and homemade IBEA. This study may not only be significant to the future researchers interested in making further studies about termites and acaricide but also for the common people to know the other benefits of Ipil-ipil as an acaricide The experimental design used was the Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications and five treatments. The first treatment was 100 ml. of commercial acaricide. The four remaining treatments consisted of different concentrations of ipil-ipil barks solution (T- 40 ml. ipil-ipil barks extract 60 ml. distilled water, T-50 ml. ipil-ipil barks extract 50 ml. distilled water, Ty 60 ml. ipil- ipil harks extract + 40 ml. water, T 100 ml. ipil-ipil barks extract) Data gathering was done in one day. The data gathered were analyzed statistically using one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). To compute the mortality rate of the termites, the Abbot formula was used. The results given in terms of the mortality rate of the IBEA were ranked in a descending order Treatment 0 (To) was followed by Treatment 4 (Ta), then Treatment 3 (T)). Treatment 2 (T₂), and then Treatment 1 (T) that was labeled as last. Results showed that there is a significant difference between the commercially synthesized acaricide and the Ipil-ipil Harks Extract Acaricide (IBEA) in terms of the mortality rate. The gathered data represents that the higher the concentration of the IBEA, the greater the mortality rate of termites. This statement approves with the research article of Adissu S entitled, "Efficacy of Botanical Extracts against Termites, Macrotermes spp., (Isoptera: Termitidae) under Laboratory Conditions" which states that, "The more the concentration was the better the efficacy of each botanical extract." This study recommends other researchers to formulate an acaricide which uses other parts of the Ipil-ipil tree and a study concerning the application of the Ipil-ipil acaricide to other pest. Also, to formulate a potential solution of acaricide made from other plants. Future researchers were also recommended to test the lethal concentration of the IBEA and to perform a phytochemical analysis of Ipil-ipil barks extract to determine if there are components other than tannin that can affect the mortality of the target pests. | ||
