500 _aA Research Study (LSHS) -- Cavite State University-CCAT Campus, 2019.
504 _aIncludes bibliographical references and appendices.
520 _aThe study was conducted from January 2018 to May 2019 in Cavite State University - College of Arts and Trades to detect the presence of microplastic in salt (Sodium Chloride). Specifically, the study aimed to: 1) describe the physical characteristics of the distinguished microplastic: and 2) distinguish which brand of salt samples contains microplastics. This study provides information about the microplastics that were found in collected salt samples. The researchers collected ten (10) brands of salt samples in the markets in Rosario, Cavite. These brands were available in the time of May 2019. Each brand has three (3) replicates, and each replicate contains fifty grams (50g) of salt. These brands are classified as iodized salt, rock salt, and sea salt. These brands were labelled as Brand A, Brand B, Brand C, Brand D, Brand E, Brand F, Brand G, Brand H, Brand I and Brand J. Each replicate has undergone the Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) Treatment. 250 mL of water (H2O) was added to each H2O2-Salt solution for the dissolution. A drop of the solution was transferred it to a glass slide and put it in a binocular microscope. Each replicate had three specimens. Microplastics were detected in all the salt samples that are collected. The microplastics that are found in the binocular microscope were captured. The photographs were observed. The detected microplastics were compared to the other shapes of microplastics in other studies. The prevalence of each classification of salt was computed.
