520 _aABSTRACT ACEVEDA, JEFFREY R., ORTEGA, ERWIN B. and PAREJA, JOSHUA A., Development of Portable Refrigerant Recovery Unit. A project design study, Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology. Cavite State University - Rosario, Campus April 2014. Adviser: Mr. Lauro B.Pascua. Technical critic: Mr. Danilo D. Santiago. This study entitled Portable Refrigerant Recovery Unit aimed to answer the following problems; (1) How does the Refrigerant Recovery Unit help in fast removing of refrigerants? (2) How does the Refrigerant Recovery Unit help in cleaning, recycling and removing a refrigerant in the Refrigeration System? (3) How does the Refrigerant Recovery Unit help in our Environment? This technical feasibility study designed, constructed, tested and evaluated the Portable Refrigerant Recovery Unit. This essential product that may answer the continuing problem of a lack of equipment and tools in shop laboratories of technical schools. The main objective of this study was to make a machine for students in SMT and Allied subjects that cleans and recycles the refrigerant and removes the refrigerant out of the Refrigeration System safely and without harmful effects on the ozone layer. Specifically this study aimed to do the following:(1) Plan and revised equipment or machine in terms of economical configuration,(2) Design a portable refrigerant recovery unit with manifold gauge set and recovery cylinder with scale for removing refrigerant in any cooling system, (3) Construct a refrigerant recovery unit from available parts and materials in the local market, (4) Analyze the project study as to its functionalityand workability, (5) Test and try out to determine its strength capabilities and its weaknesses, (6) Revise and remedied defects. This project study was conducted at Cavite State University - Rosario,Stationary Marine Technology Building from June 2013 to February 2014.The researchers planned and analyzed the important things relevant to the project. The methodology which was used to complete the prototype was cutting, flaring, swaging, wiring, grinding, drilling, welding and sheet metal working. Random sampling was used, the result were computed using percentage, mean, and frequency distribution. Based on the results of the evaluation, the prototype was rated good, very good and excellent; that means, it provides satisfactory performance in the process of removing refrigerants out of the refrigeration or air conditioning system without harmful effects in our environment. This study showed that the prototype was feasible to construct because the function was very useful for students and other users and it is user friendly. The materials used were ready and locally available in the market. The total cost of the prototype was PHP 11,638.00. Based on the data that has been collected, organized and computed from the survey conducted to 40 participants of different ages, genders and occupations, the produced prototype is excellent in functionality, aesthetics, workability, durability, economy, safety and sale ability. To sum up, the 40 respondents generally liked the prototype and it was acceptable to the general public.
