520 _aABSTRACT GONZAGA,VINCENT M., RATONEL, KIMBERLY P., and REYNANTE, ATRICK JAE A. Development of Automatic Turn-Off 12V Battery Charger with Alarm and Battery Level Indicator. Undergraduate Project Design. Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology Major in Electronics Technology. Cavite State University Rosario Campus, Rosario, Cavite. April 2016. Adviser: Mr. Nemrod M. Zoleta. Technical critic: Mr. Nonilo G. Evangelista. The study was conducted from June 2015 to April 2016 at Cavite State University Rosario Campus in Electronics Building (TVEP R-3) to develop an automatic turn-off 12V battery charger with alarm and battery level indicator. Specifically, the study aimed to:1) design the Automatic Turn-Off 12V Battery Charger with Alarm and Battery Level Indicator; 2) construct the Automatic Turn-Off 12V Battery Charger with Alarm and Battery Level Indicator from supply and materials available in the local market; 3) evaluate the charging time and temperature of the Automatic Turn-Off 12V Battery Charger with Alarm and Battery Level Indicator, and; 4) conduct a cost analysis for the Automatic Turn-Off 12V Battery Charger with Alarm and Battery Level Indicator. The prototype was constructed with different parts which include the power transformer with current rating of 30A that lessen the period of charging process, two mechanical timers that set the time of charging and prevents the battery from overcharging and being damaged, two horn type alarms that notify the user when the charging process was done, and two PWM type charge controller and four LED indicators that provides the visual indication of the battery's charging condition and protection for reverse polarity connection. Testing and evaluation was conducted in 72hrs. The charging time was measured in three attempts while measurement of temperature was done once only for every trial. Data collected were analyzed using the ANOVA. The charging time of the charger was assessed in terms of the different voltage condition of the battery and the time set for its charging to be fully charged. The temperature of the charger was assessed in terms of the time set for charging the batteries. A battery with voltage condition of 6V will be fully charged after 1 hour and 50 minutes. The temperature measured after charging was 32°C. For a 7V battery, 34°℃ was measured after 1 hour and 30 minutes. The time set for charging an 8V battery was 1 hour and 10 minutes and the temperature measured was 35°C. After 50 minutes of charging a 9V battery, the temperature measured was 36°C. For a 10V battery, 30 minutes was set in the mechanical timer for charging and the measured temperature was 37C.Lastly,an 11V battery became fully charged after 15 minutes and the temperature measured was 38°C. Voltage condition of the battery is directly proportional to the time of charging. The lower the level of the battery, the longer time it takes to become fully charged. Temperature is directly proportional to the period of charging. The longer the period of charging, the higher the temperature.
