The research study entitled "CCS Particle Board as an Alternative Source of Lawanit was conducted at Tejeros Convention Rosario, Cavite. Furthermore, the experiment and observations were made at the Department of Science and Technology Forest Products and Research Development Institute, U.P. Los Baños, Laguna. Generally, this study aimed to find if it is possible to use mixed coconut coir and corn silk as raw materials in making particle board. Specifically, this study aimed to determine the significant difference between the commercial Lawanit and the "Coco Coirn Silk Board" (CCS Board) in terms of strength, water absorption, thickness swelling and internal bond.
This study used the Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications to determine the significant difference between the commercial Lawanit and the particle board. The statistical treatment applied was the formula for the Modulus of Rupture (MOR), Water Absorption, Thickness Swelling and Inter Bond given by the DOST - FPRDI. Moreover, the t- test was used to obtain the significant difference in the 4 properties.
The coconut husks were gathered at a coconut stall in Tejeros Convention Rosario, Cavite. Some were provided by DOSTFPRDI; corn silks from Mr. Narciso Vergara and a corn stall in Divisoria. They were sun dried and coir were shredded firmly and were mixed together with the binder, phenol formaldehyde, in the shallow tub according to the following treatments To Commercial Lawanit, [T1-75% (275 g) Coir + 25% (92 g) Silk, T2-50% (184 g) coir + 50% (184 g) Silk, T3-75% (275 g) Silk + 25% (92 g) silk). Then it was molded on a wooden molder. Molder was removed from the treatment and was "hot pressed" After, was then the boards were cut into dimensions and were tested in terms of strength, water absorption, thickness swelling and internal bond and the data were analyzed.
Results showed that the three treatments and the commercial Lawanit have a significant difference in terms of strength, water absorption, thickness swelling and internal bond. The results of t-test were greater than the tabular value of ± 2.92
