BAROA, CHRISTIAN G., BLANCO, DANICA S. AND GRENNIE C. CENIZAL Development of SMS-Based Student Monitoring System using Biometrics for Cavite State University Rosario. A Project Design. Bachelor of Science in Information Technology. Cavite State University-Rosario, Rosario, Cavite. February 2015. Adviser: Christopher G. Estonilo.
The student monitoring system was developed to monitor the time in and time out of the student when they enter and leave the campus. The main beneficiaries of the study are the teachers and parents. It was developed to give real time event information to the parents with regards to the entrance and exit of the student inside the school premises. The information will be sent to the parents through short messaging service technology Fingerprint scanner was used to gather information from the student.
Specifically, the study aimed to: 1.) design the user interface of SMS-Based Student Monitoring using Biometrics for CvSU- Rosario; 2) evaluate and test the system to the campus, and 3) implement the system to the Cavite State University - Rosario Campus
A methodology called interactive model was used during the development of the system. It consists the phases of planning, analyzing and designing. A software evaluation tool was used to analyze the system's performance and is based on the following criteria: accuracy, consistency, correctness of the software, reliability, information in the program, user-interaction and technical aspects.
The researchers conducted an evaluation on 130 participants including 97 students and 1 teacher from Cavite State University Rosario, 2 1.T. specialists and 30 parents. The result of the software evaluation shows that the application can be used to determine student's presence inside the campus. On a daily basis, parents or guardians can receive an SMS notification regarding whether the student came or did not enter the campus.
The system can generate report of the time-in and time-out record of the students inside the school. Furthermore, researchers recommended that the report viewing of the system can also be available online. Through this, parents living in a far place from school can still monitor their children's presence inside the campus.
