Summary: PASCUAL,JOSE MARTE E.,PEREA,JADE BRIXTER P.,ROBILON,JOHN LOUIE L. Development and Evaluation of Power Steering System Trainer. Undergraduate project design. Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology.Cavite State University, Rosario 2016. Adviser: Mr. Ariel G. Santos. Technical critic: Mr. Richard V. Dela Pena. The study was conducted from July 2014 to March 2016 to develop and evaluate a power steering system trainer. Specifically, the study aimed to; 1) Design a power steering system trainer; 2) Construct a power steering system trainer; 3) Evaluate the performance of the power steering system trainer in terms of the following;a) Speed of motor operation ; b) Ease of operation in power steering; c) Functionality in 5 major activities/module using the trainer instructional; a) Steering free play b) Power Steering Leak Testing and Checking c) Centering Steering wheel d) Copper tubeflaring e) Belt inspection, adjustment and replacement 4) Conduct Cost analysis of Power Steering System Trainer. The power steering system trainer was constructed with power steering components similar to an actual cars with power steering system. The prototype was consist of power steering pump driven by AC motor (Electric motor) 220 V and /%HP. The pulley helps the ribbed type belt transfer the rotating force from the electric motor to the power steering pump. Power steering pump the fluid from reservoir to the rack and pinion. Copper tube 5/6 diameter were use in connecting the power steering hoses to rack and pinion. When the steering wheel turns, the movement is carried through the torsion bar that connects to the control valve. The resistance of the spring cause the torsion bar to twist. This opens the control valve which sends pressurized fluid to one or the other side of the piston to provide the power assist. Assembled and welded together using E6013 to support the power steering components and a stainless rod to fix the pulley in the electric motor. The study revealed that the longer the motor operation as measured in hours, the lesser rpm the motor produce. However it can be noted that succeeding two hours of operation motor rpm remained constant. The total cost of the project was Php 17, 506.
