Thesis Abstract <a href="BELEN, ANTHONY A., PALANCA, JESSICA MARIE G., AND SALIBA, KENNEDY M. DEVELOPMENT OF AN ENHANCED TRACKER: ASKBLUE STICKER. A Project Design. Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering. Cavite State University-Rosario, Rosario, Cavite. April 2014. Adviser: Raiza D. Borreo. Technical critic: Diane P. Arayata.

The study was conducted from June 2013 to January 2014 at Cavite, Philippines.

“The quickest way to find something you've lost or misplaced is to purchase another Just like it” ...says George Bergman, but what if the wallet you’ve lost is a 50-year-old inheritance from your grandparents? The sentimental value is immeasurable.

The primary purpose of this design project is to develop a pocket size tracker that could definitely lessen user’s worries in finding misplaced objects in a modern and easy way, through a mobile application. Specifically, the study aimed to: 1. plan for a portable device which is able to trace the location of the object being tagged; 2. analyze the proximity of the tracker, timescales and latencies; 3. develop a track down sticker that is able to track multiple stickers simultaneously; 4. implement and evaluate the AskBlue Sticker’s features, functionality as well as its performance; 5. Document the device through the user’s manual. This project foresees the reality of existing problems of tracking misplaced objects.

As an innovation — oriented study, the researchers had two separated creations; the Application and the Tracker Device, both linked together. The thesis includes Bluetooth technology overview and Android application design. Both theoretical and measured values are given for delay variance, signal transmission, and device quality for different locations and distances between Bluetooth devices.

The researchers designed a unique layout for 7 tracker devices and each micro component were screened and chosen to perfectly fit for their use accordingly.

After the alpha testing stage, the performance analysis and evaluation of the AskBlue Application and Tracker is presented through beta testing. 100 participants of students, professionals, and housewives tried, tested and evaluated AskBlue. As a conclusion, development platforms, such as Eclipse, make the development of the Application work easier.

The findings of the study suggest a lot more to the development of this cutting edge masterpiece; adding alarms and notifications for a more effortless search for all the user’s belongings.

The project has an overall contribution to the society; ease and calmness. As Prof Solomon stated on his book, “How to find lost objects”, Principle III“...to find a lost object, you must be in the proper frame of mind.” Users can now quietly sit down, drink his tea while locating his valuables calmly.

The project was completed with a few minor variations from the initial design and we are able to have all predefined functionalities working. Although the actual products have a little drawbacks at this moment, with the current design, a few modifications will absolutely make it worth produced and marketed in the future.
